The NBI under the P-Noy Administration

Under the leadership of Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, the NBA reaffirms its enduring commitment as an investigative agency of the government. Among the notable accomplishments of its investigative services are:

Apprehension of Rolando Fajardo, most wanted fugitive/ leader of a notorious kidnap-for-ransom gang with P1million bounty, upon arrival at the NAIA on November 2, 2010; probe of the post 2010 Bar examination blast in front of De La Salle University, Taft Ave., Manila that led to the positive identification of suspect, Anthony L. Nepomuceno; extended investigative and forensic assistance to the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) hostage-taking where some Hong Kong tourist were killed at Rizal Park, Manila in August 2010;

A group led by Andres Concha engaged in the illegal collection and sale of cave resources, mostly stalactites and stalagmite were arrested; nabbed 38 Taiwanese suspected to be part of a big on line fraud syndicate during a raid in Parañaque on July 20, 2011; a Filipino, Omar Agang-ang Decendario, accused of defrauding the United States government’s Medicare program of $40 million was arrested in Davao City on August 9,2011; Chang Hung-Yi, Chen Chun-Hsien, Hsieh Fu-Chin, Che Hung-Lun and Ho Wei-Hung, all Taiwanese nationals allegedly engaged in international telephone fraud in the Philippines were arrested in Industrial Valley Complex, Marikina City;

The NBI Environmental and Wildlife Protection and Investigation Division (EWPID) filed multiple charges of animal cruelty against spouses Vic and Chita Dorma Ridon, of La Union, who allegedly sell in a website “crush video” featuring local woman torturing to death different kinds of animals; NBI agents raided two residences of Lynard Allan Saliring Bigcas, in Bukidnon and seized 24 luxury cars allegedly stolen in Houston, Texas, USA following a request from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation on  May 2,2011; former Batangas Gov. Antonio Leviste, Supposedly serving a 12-year prison term in jail, was arrested by NBI agents while about to board his vehicle in Makati City in May 2011; arrested seven (7) person suspected member of a syndicate believed to be engaged in siphoning hundreds of thousands of liters of oil from delivery barges in the sea off Bgy. Lamao Limay, Bataan The NBI Steadfastly responded to major global commitments / national concerns, such as drugs trafficking, human trafficking, and violation of intellectual property rights. Since 2010, the NBI has arrested fifty six (56) drug trafficking mostly drug mules or couriers of different nationalities, in the relentless campaign against international drug trafficking. At the onset of 201, the NBI has seized large quantities of imitated take merchandise and luxury products such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, La Coste, Omega and Bulgari watches, Autodesk and other counterfeit computer programs and many other items estimated at P3.7 billion.

In the global effort against human trafficking, the MBI rescued one hundred twenty eight (128) women, including minors. Most of the victims are OFWs duped by unscrupulous syndicates. The NBI nabbed a couple in Cebu City forcing their minor children in explicit and obscene acts before the web cam in exchange for a fee; and apprehended Kazuhisa Aizawa, a Japanese national accused of posting photos of minors whom he victimized on a dating website. For the said commendable efforts, the NBI through its Anti-Human Trafficking Division by the Inter Agency Council Against Trafficking. The NBI was cited, thus- “proved valuable and indispensable to the Philippines’ pursuit to be excluded from tier 2 Watch list of the US State Department” It also gained the recognition of the country’s national leadership.
