Stamps featuring the Clothing and Power in 19th Century Philippines
The Philippine Postal Corporation will issue a set of topical stamps featuring clothing of Christian lowland and indigenous peoples of the Philippines during the 19th century.
The images selected for the stamps are from the exhibition, SHEER REALITIES: CLOTHING & POWER IN 19TH CENTURY PHILIPPINES which will open on November 21, 2000 at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. This important exhibition of well-crafted clothing, jewelry, paintings, accouterments and sculptures is a critical exploration of the dimensions of the Philippine nationalist movement as it developed in the 19th century. Sheer Realities is organized by the Asia Society–New York, Asia Society–Manila, Philippine National Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila; curated by Marian Pastor Roces. The exhibition will run until January 2001.
