"It all started with the courage to dream"
It all started with a man’s dream to defend. His intentions were clear and untainted to help the people with no financial means to hire the services of an attorney. He deeply committed himself in helping the poor and the marginalized. Elpidio F. Barzaga, Jr., after earning his degree on BS Commerce Major in Accounting at San Beda College where in the graduated Cum Laude, decided to take up Bachelor of laws at Laws at Far Eastern University where he topped his batch and graduated as Magna Cum Laude.
Come 1998, he for the mayoralty seat won. His dream became of greater significance to make Dasmariñas reach its full potential as a town and give his constituents, the Dasmarineños, a more suitable way of life. He believed that progress was doable and he acted on them with unrelenting passion and determination. He gave public office a fresh meaning which underscore the municipality’s colossal transformation into a first class suburbia. Nine uninterrupted years of public service exhibited Pidi’s brilliance, perseverance and zeal that brought forth innumerable infrastructure, education, cultural, civic, health and sports programs. He accomplishments and the love of his people rippled far and wide and on July 1, 2007, he took his seat in the House of Representative for the Second District of Cavite comprising the town of Imus, Dasmariñas, General Mariano Alvarez, Carmona, General Trias, Tanza and Trece Martires City.
Presently, he is serving as Representative of the Lone District of the city of Dasmariñas in the 15th Congress. His invaluable contribution as a legislator made him Chairman of the Committee of Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Dangerous Drugs and membership in other committees.
Jennifer Austria – Barzaga, a registered nurse, alumnus of the College of Nursing of De La Salle University Dasmariñas and wife of Congressman Barzaga took over the mayoralty position in 2007, making her the first woman Mayor of Dasmariñas. She carried the responsibilities of being the mother of the town like a mother who tended to the needs of her children. Over – and – above all the existing programs and projects of her husband Pidi and after making sure that the administration covered all the basics, she added emphasis on women empowerment, healthcare and more benefits for the elderly and the disabled. Indeed, Mayor Jenny mirrored her profession in her endeavors. With faith, courage and dedication, she redefined impossibilities to possibilities.
