The human figures express the volunteer spirit of goodwill and service to others which bonds and brings light and hope for struggling peoples and nations. The laurel stands for nobility of purpose and achievements of the volunteers; also of the United Nations which created lW. The logo is that of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), the Philippines'focal agency on volunteerism, Finally, the slogan "Make a difference: be a volunteer" captures the essence of volunteering and sounds off a call that volunteerism rejects no one, everybody can contribute productively to building a better world.

Year 2001 is designated international Year of Volunteers (lYV). This posts an outstanding milestone in the history of volunteerism and underscores its continuing relevance in the fast globalizing and technology-driven world of the 21st century. Read more.
