Fray de Urdaneta was a Spanish Augustinian friar, sail captain and explorer who was in the Legaspi Expedition that left Spain for the Philippines on Novembe 21, 1564 on board the ship Capitana that sailed along with the galleons San Pablo and San Pedro and the tenders of San Juan and San Lucas.

Trivia about Roque B. Ablan

Outstanding public servant and World War II hero, Roque Ablan was born on 09 August 1906 in Laoag, llocos Norte to Victor Ablan and Raymunda Blanco. He obtained his Bachelor of Philosophy degree in 1929 and Bachelor of Laws degree in 1930 from the University of the Philippines. That same year, he took the bar examinations, placing 9th among the successful examinees.

Trivia about the Vice President Jejomar Binay

The Philippine Postal Corporation, through the Stamp Committee, in its 11th Regular Meeting held last July 28, 2010, approved the issuance of the Vice-President Inauguration Stamp for Hon. Jejomar Binay. It is classified as a “Special” kind of issue with a denomination of P 7.00 and quantity of 35,000 pieces. It will be issued on November 11, 2010, in time for the birthday of the Vice-President.

The stamp will show the Vice-President taking his “Oath of Office” administered by Supreme Court Associate Justice Conchita Carpio- Morales, while his wife, Dr. Elenita Binay holds the Holy Bible.

Trivia about the Philippine National Artists

Carlos Quirino – is best known for his early biography of Jose Rizal. He also wrote several works on Philippine history and biographies of President Manuel Quezon and the painter Damian Domingo. In 1997 he was recognised as a National Artist of the Philippines for Historical Literature.

Leonor Orosa Goquingco – was a Filipino national artist in creative dance. She could play the piano, draw, design scenery and costumes, sculpt, act, direct, dance and choreograph. Her pen name was Cristina Luna and she was known as Trailblazer, Mother of Philippine Theater Dance and Dean of Filipino Performing Arts Critics. She died on July 15 2005 of “cardiac arrest secondary to cerebro-vascular accident” at the age of 87.

Juan Luna paintings taken from the book of "Juan Luna, The Filipino Painter" by Santiago Albano Pilar and published by Eugenio Lopez Foundation, Inc., 1980.  The diskette with the paintings was provided by Carminda Arevalo of the National Historical Institute.

An internationally acclaimed Filipino painter who brought honor to the Philippines. Juan Luna was born in Badoc, Ilocos Norte on October 24, 1857. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ateneo de Manila. In 1877, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain, where he won the high praises of his Spanish teachers.

Jaime Lachica Cardinal Sin, the 30th Archbishop of Manila, was born August 31, 1928 in New Washington, Aklan, a small town in an island in the central Philippines. He was the seventh of nine children of Juan Sin, a Chinese businessman who had migrated to the Philippines, and Maxima Reyes Lachica.

Blas F. Ople was elected to the Senate in 1992 and reelected in 1998.
